Chiral Symmetry and the Nucleon ’ s Vector Strangeness Form Factors
نویسنده
چکیده
The nucleon’s strange-quark vector current form factors are studied from the perspective of chiral symmetry. It is argued that chiral perturbation theory cannot yield a prediction for the strangeness radius and magnetic moment. Arrival at definite predictions requires the introduction of additional, modeldependent assumptions which go beyond the framework of chiral perturbation theory. A variety of such model predictions is surveyed, and the credibility of each is evaluated. The most plausible prediction appears in a model where the unknown chiral counterterms are identified with t-channel vector meson exchange amplitudes. The corresponding prediction for the mean square Dirac strangeness radius is 〈r2 s〉 = 0.24 fm2, which would be observable in up-coming semileptonic determinations of the nucleon’s strangeness form factors. 11.30.Rd, 12.40.-y, 14.20.Dh Typeset using REVTEX On leave from the Department of Physics, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA 23529 USA

Axial-vector form factors of the nucleon within the chiral quark-soliton model and their strange components
We investigate three different axial-vector form factors of the nucleon, GA, G 3 A, G 8 A, within the framework of the SU(3) chiral quark-soliton model, emphasizing their strangeness content. We take into account the rotational 1/Nc and linear strange quark (ms) contributions using the symmetryconserving SU(3) quantization and assuming isospin symmetry. The strange axial-vector form factor is a...

We update Jaffe’s estimate of the strange isoscalar radius and magnetic moment of the nucleon. We make use of a recent dispersion–theoretical fit to the nucleon electromagnetic form factors and an improved description of symmetry breaking in the vector nonet. We find μs = −0.24 ± 0.03 n.m. and r2 s = 0.21 ± 0.03 fm2. The strange formfactor F s 2 (t) follows a dipole with a cut–off mass of 1.46 ...

There are several different experimental indications, such as the pion-nucleon Σ term and polarized deep-inelastic scattering, which suggest that the nucleon wave function contains a hidden ss̄ component. This is expected in chiral soliton models, which also predicted the existence of new exotic baryons that may recently have been observed. Another hint of hidden strangeness in the nucleon is pr...

There are several different experimental indications, such as the σπN term, strange spin polarization, strangeness contribution to the magnetic moment of the proton, ratio of strange and non strange quark flavor distributions which suggest that the nucleon contains a hidden strangeness component which is contradictory to the naive constituent quark model. Chiral constituent quark model with con...

Dispersion relations provide a powerful tool to describe the low-energy structure of hadrons. We review the status of the strange vector form factors of the nucleon in dispersion theory. We also comment on open questions and the relation to chiral perturbation theory.
